Megan in London?

Saturday, January 13th, 2007

Funny lady Megan Mullally – she of Will & Grace fame – is in negotiations to star opposite Michael Ball in the creaky old Arabian Nights musical, Kismet for the English National Opera in London. The actress who was a comic triumph as bossy, bun-topped Karen in Will & Grace, has been asked to play the role of Lalume, the lustful wife of the show’s evil Wazir. An ENO spokesman confirmed last night it was in talks with the actress: ‘It’s true that we are in discussions with Megan Mullally, but nothing has been finalised.’Kismet is set in Baghdad (which certainly makes it topical) and was a success on Broadway and the West End more than half a century ago, but its not often revived, mainly because it’s so corny. But at least it has some classic standards (Baubles, Bangles And Beads, Stranger in Paradise) and a lush score by Bob Wright and George (Chet) Forrest, which was borrowed mostly from Aleksander Borodin’s Prince Igor. Also, the ENO production, which runs at the London Coliseum for 19 performances from June 25, will be directed by Gary Griffin, who’s very clever at re-imagining shows. He did the award-winning revival of Sondheim’s Pacific Overtures at the Donmar. Griffin has assembled a good team to re-work Kismet. Kit Hesketh-Harvey will re-jig the script with original co-writer Luther Davis, while conductors Richard Hickox and Simon Lee will re-arrange the score. Then Griffin can call on the many talents of his old friend Ms. Mullally, who I last saw in a musical in New York last century.Mr. Ball is already well and truly signed up, which is just as well because the people behind the dreadful Broadway show The Drowsy Chaperone want him for the London production.DISCUSS THIS IN OUR FORUMS!THANK YOU TO FORUM MEMBER ALEXA, FOR THIS INFORMATION!

The Megan Mullally Show – Cancelled

Friday, January 5th, 2007

The first syndication casualty of the season got the axe Wednesday, as NBC Universal informed staff of “The Megan Mullally Show” that the series was being cancelled.Production is being shut down immediately and airings of the first-run talk show strip will continue through the end of January in both originals and repeats. The series has been averaging a 0.8 rating this season, tying it for last among all series in the genre. In a statement, NBCU wrote “We are very proud of the hard work and effort that our staff put into the production of this show. And our host, Megan Mullally, is truly one of the most talented people in our business. We are grateful to have partnered with her on the show and are appreciative for her tireless commitment, effort and dedication to this endeavor.”Executives at the distributor will be working with stations to find potential programming solutions to fill the hole left by “Megan’s” departure.————–Thank you Megan for these past 4 months of laughter and smiles. We will miss this talk show more then you would believe but we will be here for your next venture no matter what! Stay strong and remember, we love and support you always.
